The coffee machine that I use sometimes rejects coins that I give it. So sometimes I take spare cash to buy a drink in case my money doesn’t work. But sometimes I take the exact money. Why?
I am pretty sure you have better things to do with your time, but you could do the following: Before you go home the night before, you put the coins in the machine to check it accepts them up to the value you want and then hit the reject button and get your now 'pre-authorised' coins back.
or
The machine only ever rejects certain denominations of coin? Therefore if the change you have is made up of those it does not reject, then you will be OK?
Because you hope deep down that it will reject them and so you will have to go back and get more coins. Therefore allowing you to skip work for longer ooorrr to ponder on that difficult problem longer.
Boris, you got it right. Sometimes I pay with change that I got from the machine. Which, since it has been accepted by the machine already, should work fine.

the change you have all came out of the machine as change, so you know it must accept it.
