Thought for the Dazed

I've had to give up that Distance Learning course as I was having trouble seeing the teacher.

Second Worst Place To Live in Britain

Some idiot Channel 4 program has just published a survey that makes out that Hull is the second worst place to live in Britain. This morning I thought I'd take a few pictures of the horrible place where I live.

The Spurn Point light ship as was. You can go round it if you like.

Awful place, isn't it.

Go Hull.

Them's some pretty nice pictures there Rob, but I think you need to go and get a more balanced picture of Hull. I suggest you go and take some pictures around Orchard Park and Brandsholme. If you're lucky they'll only steal your camera wallet and phone.

Hull has good bits and bad bits. In this respect it is like every other city I've ever been to (and I've been to quite a few). It is just that I think it is worth making the point that the good bits in Hull are very nice indeed.I take pride in the place where I live, and it irritates me to see a place I regard as rather nice brought down in this way, on the basis of ill formed criteria of a very arbitrary nature. And yes, I've been to Bransholme and Orchard Park and even (whisper it) know people who live there.

If people believe that tripe, then it's their loss.

I agree with you Rob, the nice bits of Hull are very nice indeed, and the bad bits are quite bad. I can and will say the same about many cities (Southampton and Portsmouth are much the same). I'll admit it, I'm biased in that I dislike cities full stop. If I could I'd live in the middle of nowhere and visit civilisation only when necessary.

Still, at least your not as bad as that Middlesbrough eh?

Another pointless survey...

Still don't know why they bother writing them or why anyone bothers commenting on it having read it.

I'm with David on this issue. I live in villages, not towns or cities.

Cities are for working in and the occassional shopping trip.

I love Hull. Don't knock it 'till you've been

I have had people visit and they think Hull is absolutely wonderful; as do I. Everywhere has it's bad bits, as has been commented on. I take people for a stroll round the old town, the dry docks, the marina. The Deep is great fun, as is Street Life if you have time, there are lovely places to eat, drink, maybe have a wander around the avenues if you feel so inclined. Also, one thing that I think is often overlooked is that, say in shops for example, people are awfully friendly compared to some other places, say in the south of the country. I could go on...
I love Hull, I really do.

I love hull, but there are many - how should you say... not nice people living here too.

I work in Hull as a police officer. I really only see the violence, drug and asbo nature of the city. taking a few photos of the marina doesn't go to show that its not that bad here.
Like a previous poster said, go and have a look at bransholme and orchard park. Just try to look at a youth for longer than a second. I bet you'd be met with a tirade of expletives. Observe the baseball capped, tracksuit wearing little darlings riding round on their illegal (often stolen) motorcycles.
Sure, these are only the minority, but it only takes a few to spoil things for everybody and unfortunately hull has more than it's fair share.

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany"

Just kidding, it's not all bad. There are some bits that are like holding pens for the Jeremy Kyle show but overall; a goood place to live...

...And, although I don't believe your tale anon, I think you might be in the wrong proffession if you expect to see anything other than low-lives.
