Thought for the Dazed

I've had to give up that Distance Learning course as I was having trouble seeing the teacher.

Great to be Back

WP_20130906_08_44_47_Pro__highres.jpg

Actually, it is pretty great to be back in the department. In spite of what my calculator says.

We have shiny new students arriving in a couple of weeks and loads of things to plan and do. We also have new toys to play with and people to meet. I’m really looking forward to it all.

So what platform are you going to teach Software against, now that XNA has bitten the dust.
Will your courses still be based upon C#, or HTML5 ?

I find it frustrating that Microsoft are pushing JavaScript, throwing away 40 years of compiled strong typing, and Object Orientated techniques, for the sake of keeping the web crown happy. I guess I am getting too old for Software development.

We'll be using C# for teaching, as it is a very good language to learn with.

For this year I'm going to be sticking with XNA. We still have it in the labs and I can't find anything better to get started. Anyone that wants to take it further has MonoGame to work with, which is very useful.
