Thought for the Dazed

I've had to give up that Distance Learning course as I was having trouble seeing the teacher.

Book News

image

Two bits of interesting book news today. O’Reilly are having a special offer on all kinds of great books for the next week, up to 5th July. One of them is my XNA book (the one on the left above). Follow this link to get your hands on this, and any other titles that take your fancy (but buy mine first…)

Also, Start Here! Learn the Kinect API! is coming out soon, I think some folk have already managed to buy a copy. One clarification, just as we went to print Microsoft released version 1.5 of the Kinect SDK. The book doesn’t cover any of the new APIs provided in version 1.5, but all of the content will work fine.

Hi Rob,
I am a little bit lost with the Kinect API: if I am not wrong Microsoft changed them between the XBox Kinect and the Windows Kinect, right?

Or all the issues are solved? I do remember a friend of mine being confused with both versions being not compatible, and giving up the release of his game.

I admit that I didn't check that issue since then.

Thank you.

The Kinect SDK will work with either the Xbox or the Windows Kinect sensor. If you use the Xbox sensor you get a warning message during the build that tells you that you are using an "incompatible" sensor, but everything works fine.

All the code samples for the book have been tested on an Xbox sensor, and I've also run then on a Windows sensor too.
