Thought for the Dazed

I've had to give up that Distance Learning course as I was having trouble seeing the teacher.

Don’t Forget Memory of a Goldfish

GoldFish

David Parker, one of our postgrad students, has made a very nice Windows Phone pelmanism (matching pairs) game for windows phone. You can find it on the Windows Phone Marketplace by looking for “goldfish”.

I think I really ought to create a showcase page for Hull applications that have made it to the device (this would of course include Cheese Lander). If you have created an application or game for WP7 please get in touch and I’ll add you to the list.

I have written an XNA simulaition App "CarrierOps" but I am not from Hull.

I like doing the 3D stuff, but I am probably pushing the limits of the WP7 phoens too far, as I am getting very mixed review comments regarding performance.

We've had students make 3D stuff with pretty good results. We had one program that ran a bit slow until we drastically simplified the 3D model that was being used. There are lots of free models out there but they are often created for much more powerful platforms than the phone. By taking some of the detail out (which you couldn't see anyway) the performance came up nicely. Also, remember that by reducing the resolution of the screen you can get a nice performance hike at zero expense to you.
