Thought for the Dazed

I've had to give up that Distance Learning course as I was having trouble seeing the teacher.

Wonderful Adobe Reader

image

Does anyone know why Adobe Reader still does this? And why it takes so long? And why the document looks rubbish when it has finished? And why the message is wrong, even though it has been been wrong for the last few versions of the stupid program? (all of which have a stupidly laborious upgrade procedure)

There. I feel much better now…. Oh, hang on, the reader has just crashed..

Pdfs can be used to run javascript and have a lot of (arguably) non-document functionality. It's common practice to turn off javascript (under Edit > Preferences) and also the option "Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external applications" (under Edit > Preferences > Trust Manager) to strengthen security....But why such functionality is there in the first place is a bit of a mystery when most people probably just want to open and read a document.

Huh - I'm still on the word version.

Don't suppose you have any hard copies do you?
I'd happily cover printing costs - dislike reading off a nasty computer screen...

I too wouldn't complain to a hard copy.

They do it because they have no real competition. I'm an IT consultant have have hated Adobe Reader for many years for many reasons. The most recent releases are far, far superior to the older ones, but are still bulky, buggy, intrusive and just really, really annoying.

Agree with xispate, Foxit reader is a much better alternative for Windows. Cleaner text, and a lot quicker.
