Thought for the Dazed

I've had to give up that Distance Learning course as I was having trouble seeing the teacher.

Microsoft Certified Career Conference

image

Andy and I did our Windows Phone 60 Minute Rock Star show today. Andy is actually in a rock band and played a proper concert last night. I have a copy of Rock Band and like the Lego version best….

Anhoo, all went well – apart from my laptop freezing and falling off the network, forcing me to spend a nervous five minutes rebooting the thing and getting back into the Live Meeting. Fortunately this happened just at the point where Andy was showing off his Silverlight skills and I was able to drop back in on cue and show some live Cheese Lander action in XNA.

If you were along for the ride this morning, thanks for the perceptive questions at the end, I hope what we did was useful to you. I said I’d put some links in the blog and here they are:

To get started and download the development tools:

To get a copy of Cheese Lander, plus lots of other XNA examples:

Hi Rob,

I attended your session in Microsoft Career Conference.

I wanted to intall "Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone", but it isn't working for me.

Where is the download link for Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone

In this link http://www.microsoft.com/express/Phone/ I dont find any download file. The GetStarted Button link takes me to Visual Studio Express and not Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone.

I have already installed Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and Visual Studio 2010 Express Visual Basic and Also Web Platform,

I have also installed http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/2/2/822BD724-2110-40F9-A32E-8CB9BCFD7426/WP7TrainingKitOffline.Setup.exe

http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/0/9/6092A6EA-8638-4F4B-BD49-4A8FF77B2E99/WPDT_RTM_en1.iso

http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/D/6/6D66958D-891B-4C0E-BC32-2DFC41917B11/WPDTOctober2010Update_en.msp

http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/7/7/177D6AF8-17FA-40E7-AB53-00B7CED31729/vm_web.exe

But I do not find any template for windows phone in Visual Studio 2010 Express, Visual Studio 2010 ultimate.

In start->programs I have these groups "Windows Phone Developer Tools" , "Microsoft XNA Game Studio 4.0" , "Microsoft Expression"

I am having Windows 7 64 bit OS, Please help. I dont want work with Expression Blend, but from Visual Studio 2010.

Thanks & Best Regards,

Benn

Hi. I installed the tools on a brand new, empty, machine yesterday. I went:

http://create.msdn.com

>>Click on "Download the Free Tools. Get started Now" in the top left.

This takes you to:

http://create.msdn.com/en-us/home/getting_started

Then click on "Install Now". This will run the program wm_web.exe which starts the download and install process. Takes about half an hour from then, depending on your network connection. At the end of it you have Visual Studio 2010 Phone edition installed on your machine.

Good luck

Hi Rob,

I uninstalled and reinstalled and tried all possible combinations. I tried with the urls you gave me, but could not find any templates for windows phone in Silverlight or Visual Basic.

This is what I realised, I think this is the problem.

Basically there are no templates for VB.NET, because I found few templates in my C# version.

If there are templates for VB.NET please let me know. The Windows Phone Community should also consider the Visual Basic .NET Developer as well.

Thanks & Best Regards,
Benn

Ah. That makes sense. Take a look here for Visual Basic on Windows Phone:
