Thought for the Dazed

I've had to give up that Distance Learning course as I was having trouble seeing the teacher.

Pong HD in the Windows Marketplace

image

Harry Overs, one of our second year students, has taken the version of Pong that he wrote for coursework in his first year and made it into a Windows phone game. It is now on the Marketplace for anyone to download. Harry got a free Marketplace membership from Dreamspark.com (any student can do this) and submitted the app a little while back. He did the bulk of the development on the emulator and then just popped into my office and tried the game on my device to make sure that the touch and tilt elements were properly calibrated.

Well done Harry. If you want to check out the game you can find it by searching the Marketplace for Pong HD. Any other Hull students out there with games they want to try on a real device, just drop round to my office and we’ll fire them up.

Note: This doesn’t include the two First Year students who bought the first two HTC HD7 devices in Hull, and stopped me from getting one….

Immediately bought the game, nice one. Would be even better if it could go a little faster though, now it's kinda boring sometimes.
By the way Rob, do you also teach your students to think they are great because they are from Hull? First thing i noticed was the game getting a 5 star rating by someone named Harry Overs, just a little bit too obvious :P Probably has something to do with Hull being the best university in the world right? ;)
Will you attend TechEd this year?
Also don't forget to check out my free Instant Rimshot app, would be a perfect fit for very silly games (although it's not that much of a game)

Thanks for buying the game. Harry will be pleased. I've seen quite a few game authors giving their own games full marks. Not the best plan in the world, but then again if you don't like you game, why should anyone else?

I'll look up Instant Rimshot. I'm giving a couple of sessions at TechEd in Berlin and it might be useful for them....
