Thought for the Dazed

I've had to give up that Distance Learning course as I was having trouble seeing the teacher.

Windows Phone 7 to go

HTC HD7 exclusive to O2_2

Well, it’s official. Microsoft have made a new Mobile phone. In fact they’ve made several. Probably more than 7. But I digress.

The launch event today sounded fun, and things are going to be even more fun next week. Now I freely admit I love my iphone. And it was with a twinge of regret that I popped the sim out of it and into my Windows Phone a while back. But I don’t really regret the move over.

I find the Windows Phone easier to navigate and it does all I want, including run my programs.  I’m presently wondering if I’ll need to get up early on the 21st when everything launches to get my Windows Phone of choice, the HTC HD7. We shall see.

Rob,

You mentioned you popped out your iPhone sim and into the WP7 device. Does this mean we can just buy the WP7 handset of choice and use an existing iphone SIM/Contract or was this just the case with your developer device?

Cheers,

Gary

Mine is an unlocked developer's phone, i.e. it is not tied to any particular carrier. I just popped an O2 sim in and it worked fine.

Generally if you phone is assigned to a carriers you can swap sims from that carrier around, in other words I can put an Orange Pay as you go sim into an Orange contract one. If you want a contract phone to work on other carriers you have to have it unlocked by the carrier, which they will usually do for you once you have had the phone a while.

You can get WP7 phones which are tied to contracts (these will be locked to a particular carriers) and unlocked ones (from places like expansys.com). The contract ones are cheaper.
