Thought for the Dazed

I've had to give up that Distance Learning course as I was having trouble seeing the teacher.

Wii Week

wii01
"Batter Up" with Peter and Darren

Well, we have started our Wii Week. The machine arrived from Nintendo on Saturday, and we have set it up on in our open area for the week. The climax is on Friday, when we have some schools coming over for a look and we are going to have three or four systems running in the department.

I had a very quick go with Tennis, Baseball and Bowling. All I can say is "The system works". It works wonderfully well. It works "want one" well. The feeling of control that you get with the small gamepads is very good and surprisingly subtle.

The Wii is going to massively change gaming by adding a new level of fun (and probably fitness) as well. The games we played are all free with the console. And they are smashing.

There is no way that I can see the Wii being anything other than a hit with this kind of stuff available at the start. Wonderful.

If you are in the department, we are running the Wii from 12:00 to 1:45 pm each lunchtime. Feel free to drop round and have a go.

Played on it today not impressed with it i've played on better games, the games nintendo are demoing with the wii(ie. WiiSports) are not even fun to play just annoying.

One can also say that why did they pick that to show off the console.Sure little kids and non gamers will pick one up, but logic here how many non gamers will pick up a wii at xmas, I am going to say max 5% of total consoles sold in europe. So why the heck did they not choose to put the demo level of Super Mario Galaxy probably the only wii game that hasn't got any broken controls and nice graphics

@CR Well, considering that the Wii has sold out in both America and Japan, a 5% rate of sale is quite unlikely. Nevermind the fact that Amazon.co.uk ran out of pre-order spaces within the first hour of their online pre-sale.

I'm not even going to touch on whatever else you've said, save for that it seems like you've missed the point of the Wii.

On another note -- I finally got to see it in action today. Must say, I'm quite impressed.

@RyanPT Look I understand the point of the wii, but how many of the consoles sold were to non gamers though? Most were sold to people who own the xbox 360, nintendo fanboys and also people who couldn't pick up the ps3.

The console is supposed to have about twice the power of the xbox and so far the graphics of the console itself are all the launch games don't take advantage of this power.

And I was on amount 5% of consoles sold were to non-gamers

There does seem to be a weird contrast with their advertising to non-gamers and then the actual issue - needing to have a preorder and launching with Zelda. Not having full HD compatibility because non-gamers don't have super advanced technology in their homes, and then Having WiFi built in with a dongle needed for a wired connection.

Its not actually new technology its been used in so many semi-VR games in arcades for years. The best part is the fact that you can download classics game but you need wifi which seems a bit stupid to me. They said it was going to be region free then not region free no online games at launch.

This is what people call dumbasses
